The Virginia Tech Agricultural Technology program is a two year associate’s degree program. Since the program is only two years, first year students are awarded financial aid as freshman and second year students are awarded financial aid as sophomores.
As a result, students should be aware of the Federal Stafford Loan limits for these academic levels. The chart below outlines the Federal Stafford Loan limits for both independent and dependent Agricultural Technology students.
| Academic Level | Federal Stafford Loan Limits |
| Freshman | $2625 |
| Sophomore | $3500 |

See our Federal Stafford Loan page for more information about this loan.
If you have questions about whether or not you can claim yourself dependent, see our Dependency Status page.
As with other students, dependent students have the option of using the Parent PLUS Loan or private Alternative Loans to obtain additional funding for their education. Independent students can borrow additional funds through the Alternative Loan program. Dependent and independent students may also qualify for additional federal, state, and institutional aid depending on their financial need according to their FAFSA.
