Receiving your Aid
Follow these steps to complete the final requirements needed to disburse your offered financial aid.
Step 1:
Review your Virginia Tech Award Package. Spend some time reading about the Loans and (or) Grants you have been offered.
Step 2:
Complete the Entrance Interview and Master Promissory Note in order to receive the financial aid you have been offered. Perkins Loan Borrowers will need to complete a different entrance interview and promissory note in addition to a yearly questionnaire.
Step 3:
Make sure you are enrolled in 12 credit hours or more as a full time student (for graduate students full time is considered 9 hours or more).
Step 4:
Ensure that there are no other outstanding processing requirements or holds on your account. Check academic progress appeals, student processing requirements (i.e. scholarship thank you letters, etc), and financial holds from Bursar’s office through Hokie SPA or My VT. See our page on Possible Reasons for Financial Aid Delays or Refunds to help figure out the reason the hold was placed on your account.
Step 5:
Complete the Information Release Form and return it to our office if you would like your financial aid information to be released to or discussed with others (this includes the student's parents/guardians.)
Step 6:
Make sure you have notified our office of any other outside aid (i.e. scholarships) by sending us the Scholarship and Outside Aid Assistance Reporting Form and that the outside aid has been delivered to Virginia Tech (i.e. alternative loans, scholarships, grants)
Step 7:
Maintain Reasonable Academic Progress throughout the semester in order to retain eligibility for financial aid for following years.
