Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program

General Information

The Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program is a state-funded grant program based on financial need for entering freshmen and returning or transfer undergraduate students.  Only in-state students are eligible for this grant.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Full-time (12 credit hours) continuous enrollment in a degree-seeking program
  • In-state residency
  • Dependent Student
  • Entering freshmen, returning, and transfer undergraduate students
  • Must have graduated from a Virginia high school
  • Must have graduated with at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Need-based

Application Process

  • File a FAFSA by March 11

Awarding Information

  • The award varies each year depending on fund availability
  • The Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program Grant may be renewed up to three additional years (eight continuous semesters) based on financial need and if the student meets the following criteria:
  • If not eligible for the Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program, then you may still be eligible for the Commonwealth Award
