General Information
The General Scholarship Application is an online application for various scholarships provided through our office. Average award amounts vary between $500 and $2,000 and are made for an academic year. The General Scholarship awards are one-time annual awards. Students must apply each year to be considered.
Requirements
To be eligible for a General Scholarship, you must:
- Complete a General Scholarship Application for the academic year, by the March 11 deadline. This can be done through the Scholarships Gateway.
- File a FAFSA by the March 11 deadline for the upcoming aid year.
- Be a US Citizen or eligible non-citizen as outlined by the FAFSA.
- Maintain full-time enrollment (at least 12 credit hours per semester for grades)
- All students are advised to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0
Application Review
We review general scholarship applications on the basis of:
- A complete FAFSA
- A complete application. The demographic and general scholarship sections in the Scholarships Gateway must be completed to be considered a complete application. For new/transfer students, applications may be submitted before an offer of admissions.
- Financial need and educational expenses
- Academic achievement
- Additional criteria (i.e. first generation student, major) may be requested
- Extracurricular activities
- Community involvement
Awarding
Initial notification will be sent to scholarship recipients by email. A paper notification will arrive in the mail within one business week. Freshman recipients will receive their notification in April; returning and transfer students will receive their notification in June. Students who are not selected as recipients will not receive notification.
Before the scholarship is awarded, the recipient is required to write a formal letter of thanks addressed to the donor which should be sent to our office. We will forward letters to the scholarship donor. Instructions on how to complete this letter will be included in the Scholarship Award Notification. Once we have received the formal letter of thanks, the scholarship award will show as paid for the semester under the student’s bill.
