Presidential Scholarship Inititative

General Information

The Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarship Initiative (VTPSI) is a competitive scholarship program designed to offset the costs of college for in-state Virginia high school students with significant financial need.  The program will recognize and reward academically talented students who have shown persistence and a commitment to academic excellence.

Through the Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarship Initiative, a maximum of 50 Virginia residents per year will be awarded renewable, four-year scholarships and will be welcomed into a comprehensive academic and social support community.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarship Initiative, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Virginia resident for in-state tuition purposes
  • Graduate from a Virginia high school
  • Be Pell grant eligible with significant financial need
  • Demonstrate potential for stellar academic performance
  • Show evidence of leadership potential
  • Submit the FAFSA application by the March 11 priority deadline.
  • *Preference will be given to students first-generation families

Application Review

Potentially eligible students will automatically be considered for the Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarship Initiative.  Selection will be based on a formula that takes into account the students' Federal Pell Grant eligibility, strength of academic record and test scores, first generation status, and family size.  The 50 highest ranking candidates will be selected for the scholarship and notified around April 1.
