Summer 2013 students: No additional application is required, as long as you are enrolled at least half-time (6 total credits undergraduate or 5 totals credits graduate, combined for both sessions) and you have completed the 2012-13 FAFSA by June 30, 2013. (Please note: the 2013-14 FAFSA does not cover Summer 2013.) Students must complete a Summer Aid Change Form, however, for changes in enrollment. Eligibility for aid is limited. More information here.
Federal Work Study recipients: We highly recommend that you take advantage of the Federal Work Study job opportunity! These are jobs that offer flexible hours tailored to academic schedules, and there are personally rewarding opportunities such as Literacy Corps. The deadline to accept the Federal Work Study award offer (under HokieSPA Financial Aid Information) is June 14.
Campus jobs are available for students who were not offered Federal Work Study. More information here....
Financial aid award notifications for the 2013-14 school year are underway, and will continue throughout the spring and summer. If we have requested additional information, we will not award aid until we have verified that information. All 2013-14 students, both new and returning, should monitor the vt.edu email account as well as the HokieSPA Financial Aid Information tab. (Please note: The deadline to accept student loans and complete online requirements is June 14.)
Students may still file a 2013-14 FAFSA even though the FAFSA Priority Deadline for the 2013-14 school year has passed (March 1). Late filers are still eligible for Stafford student loans, Parent PLUS loans, and, in some cases, Pell Grants or Graduate (Student) PLUS Loans. Learn more about the Types of Aid and FAFSA Tips.
Stafford Loans are financial aid. Students can secure Stafford loans without a credit check or co-signer... repayment can be deferred until after graduation, and during graduate school enrollment, unemployment or economic hardship... and subsidized Stafford Loans do not accrue interest during deferment periods. No private bank loan will match such generous terms for college-aged adults without a credit history, especially at low fixed rates. More Information here.
